Know what a source can answer

Use these official tools to build the evidence layer. Each entry names the useful question, the boundary of the data, and the date this directory was checked.

World Bank

Use for: Macro context such as population, income, output, and other documented indicators.

Limits: Series are revised and coverage varies. It cannot establish product demand, tariff treatment, regulatory approval, or partner quality.

Trade Map

International Trade Centre

Use for: HS 2, 4, and 6 trade flows, growth, market shares, and origin or destination comparisons.

Limits: Yearly product data is mainly based on UN Comtrade. Full access can require a subscription in developed countries; port, transport mode, and much company data are unavailable or restricted.

Tariff and Trade Data

World Trade Organization

Use for: Applied and bound tariff schedules and merchandise trade data across more than 150 economies.

Limits: The database depends on member notifications and update schedules. It does not replace a product-specific national customs check or prove a preferential rate is in force.

UN Trade and Development

Use for: Trade, investment, concentration, tariff, and related annual or quarterly structural indicators.

Limits: Release dates and coverage differ by dataset. It supports context and comparison, not firm-level validation, live legal advice, or a partner recommendation.

European Commission Access2Markets

Use for: Product-level EU tariff, rules of origin, taxes, formalities, requirements, barriers, and trade-flow checks.

Limits: The portal warns that reports are not official and that some data is subject to licence conditions. Confirm the final position with customs or a qualified adviser.

EU-India FTA text and status

Use for: Agreement status, chapters, annexes, and the distinction between concluded negotiations and entry into force.

Limits: The published text is informational, may change until signature, and becomes binding only after both sides complete internal procedures.

Products under compulsory certification

Bureau of Indian Standards

Use for: Checking whether a product is covered by an Indian government Quality Control Order or another compulsory BIS scheme.

Limits: BIS states that certification is generally voluntary. A product-specific QCO, commencement date, manufacturer, and testing route still need checking.

Medical device and food regulator portals

Government of India

Use for: CDSCO device classes and import pathways, with FSSAI food-business licensing checked separately where a food activity is involved.

Limits: Device route and timing depend on class, product, documents, and authorised agent. FSSAI licensing applies to food business operators and food activities, not every item of food-processing equipment.
